Resource:ADNI - Alzheimers Disease Neuroimaging Initiative

Name: Resource:ADNI - Alzheimers Disease Neuroimaging Initiative
Description: A database of MRI images associated with Alzheimer's disease from the ADNI project, the most comprehensive effort to date to identify neuroimaging and other biomarkers of the cognitive changes associated with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Qualified scientists may obtain access to imaging (MRI and PET), clinical and biomarker data obtained as part of the ADNI project. The ADNI is a multisite, multiyear program which began in October 2004. Patient enrollment began in late Summer of 2005, and is expected to continue until the Fall of 2007. Approximately 800 subjects will be recruited, 200 elderly controls, 400 with mild cognitive impairment and 200 with Alzheimer's disease. Subjects will be followed for 2-3 years and will be seen approximately every 6 months. All data are de-identified to protect patient privacy.

Prospective investigators must submit an on-line application to request access to the ADNI data. As part of the application process, investigators are required to provide information about proposed research plans and agree to the ADNI data sharing and publication policies. Applications are reviewed by the Data Publication and Sharing Committee within one week of receipt.

ADNI will compare neuroimaging, biological and clinical information from study participants seeking correlations among the data that will track the progress of memory loss from its earliest stages. What is learned from the study will be used to help researchers and clinicians develop new treatments and monitor their effectiveness, increasing safety and efficiency of drug development by decreasing the time and cost of clinical trials.

The following ADNI data types are available: Clinical: Demographics, Clinical Assessments, Cognitive Assessments); Imaging: MRI: Raw, pre- and post- processed image files; PET: Raw, pre- and post- processed image files; fMRI: (ADNI GO); DTI: (ADNI GO); Chemical Biomarker: Laboratory Results; Genetic: Illumina SNP genotyping; Image Analysis Results: Numeric results derived from image analyses.
