Resource:Broad Institute

Name: Resource:Broad Institute
Description: The Broad Institute brings together a diverse group of individuals from across its partner institutions (MIT, Harvard University and the Harvard-affiliated hospitals)— undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, professional scientists, administrative professionals, and academic faculty. The Institute’s organization is unique among biomedical research institutions. It encompasses three types of organizational units: core member laboratories, programs and platforms. Scientists within these units work closely together — and with other collaborators around the world — to tackle critical problems in human biology and disease.

The Broad faculty includes core members and associate members. All associate members hold primary appointments in a "home department" at one of the partner institutions, but are deeply involved in the scientific work and culture of the Broad Institute.

Our unique organization around Core Faculty labs, scientific Programs and scientific Platforms allows us to generate a lot of data and develop the cutting edge software tools to analyze those data (increasingly large genome-related datasets). And we are committed to sharing all of it openly with the entire scientific community.

New scientific approaches are revolutionizing our knowledge of human biology and disease. The Broad Institute is dedicated to sharing this exciting new knowledge — and its social implications — with everyone. Through a variety of outreach activities, public programs, online educational resources, and events, we invite others to learn more about exciting discoveries that are unfolding and what this new knowledge means for them.
