Description:	The Layton Aging & Alzheimer’s Disease Center is one of 30 NIH Alzheimer’s Disease Centers in the United States and the only one of its kind in Oregon. Our Center is recognized as a national leader in dementia care and research, and is committed to serving the needs of people throughout the Northwest. Our clinic is staffed by neurologists, nurses, and psychologists who have expertise and interest in aging & dementia. Many of our clinic staff are also actively involved in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia research. We work together with other research partners and the service community to carry out studies in several areas, with particular focus on the oldest of our old (those over 80) and on those with early-stage dementia. Through interaction with a supportive and interested community at large, the Layton Center is able to provide a strong research base in tune with the needs of its community. Several community-based or supporting organizations are unique to Oregon and allow us to extend our research in new areas and to reach beyond the scope of the university campus and the Portland metropolitan area. These include the Oregon Center for Aging & Technology (ORCATECH), Oregon Center for Complementary & Alternative Medicine in Neurological Disorders (ORCCAMIND), Oregon Center for Translational Research (OCTRI), Oregon Geriatric Education Center (OGEC), the Oregon Partnership for Alzheimer's Research (OPAR).
