Tyrosine Hydroxylase

Name: Tyrosine Hydroxylase
Description: Tyrosine Hydroxylase is a synthetic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of L-tyrosine, tetrahydrobiopterin, and oxygen (Fe2+ is a cofactor) to 3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine (L-DOPA), dihydrobiopterin, and water. EC 1.14.16.2 (MSH). It is the rate-limiting enzyme in catecholamine synthesis, presumable because its maximum velocity is slower than that of any of the other enzymes in the synthetic pathway.
